Aquilegia Caerulea - White Star seed

Aquilegia Caerulea - White Star is an upright, clump-forming, perennial that has light green leaves with showy flowers that are white and cream colored, that have short, curled spurs. It has a blooming season ranging from late Spring to early Summer, grows best in part shade in moist, well-drained soil and will grow up to 35 inches tall. These showy flowers will attract pollinators to your garden such as Butterflies and Bees while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. They make great cut flowers and do well in beds and borders in the garden. These are also low maintenance plants, which is always a good thing for the busy gardener! It is important to note that if this plant is eaten, it can cause stomach irritation. Columbines used to be extensively used in times of Chaucer and Shakespeare as garnishes for food and as ingredients in medicines. Their use stopped, according to Linnaeus, when one too many children died from excessive intake. It is not used today. Aquilegia comes from the Latin ‘aquila’ - an eagle, a reference to the shape of the petals with their curved spurs being like an eagle’s talons. Columbine is also a reference to the flower shape. ‘columba’ is Latin for a dove, the flowers reminding people of a dove in flight with the petals being the wings and the spurs the neck and head. This is coincidentally the derivation of the old Saxon name ‘Culverwort’, Culver being Saxon for a pigeon.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!

SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!

ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.

DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.

Good Luck and Happy Planting!!!!
