Tagetes Erecta - Cracker Jack Mix

Tagetes Erecta – Cracker Jack Mix also commonly known as the African Marigold, Mexican Marigold, and Aztec Marigold, is a very popular flower that will add a lot of color to your garden. It is a fast-growing plant, that produces extra-large, chrysanthemum-like, ball-shaped flowers that range in colors from bright yellow, gold, and orange. It has a blooming season that ranges from summer to fall, will grow between 24 – 36 inches tall, grows best in full sun with well-drained soil, and is drought tolerant. These plants are native to Mexico and will attract pollinators to your garden such as butterflies and bees while being resistant to deer and rabbits. These fragrant flowers are great for cut flowers, and do well in containers, beds, and borders in the garden. These are also low maintenance plants, which is always a good thing for the busy gardener. Research studies have indicated that planting marigolds between tomatoes protects the tomato plants from harmful root-knot nematodes in the soil.

In addition to the cheery flowers that marigolds bring to your garden, they also attract beneficial insects, such as ladybugs, hoverflies and parasitic mini-wasps, that prey on garden pests. If you sow the marigolds as a cover crop and plow them under before planting, they will repel harmful nematodes.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine ,Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!

SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!

ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.

DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.
