Coreopsis tinctoria aka Plains Coreopsis or Tickseed – is an annual wildflower in the Asteraceae family, growing up to 40-inches tall and 18-inches wide. These plants have abundant 1-inch, showy, yellow flowers with reddish-brown centers that sit on top of slim, green stems. A prairie plant native to North America, it prefers full sun and moist soil, it can be grown in partial shade but may not perform as well. Although an annual, it will self-seed for the next year.  Attracts butterflies, bees, nectar insects, and birds to the garden but is resistant to deer and rabbits. Used in herbal medicine to treat diarrhea, internal pains, and bleeding. Also used in making dyes.
