Poppy Papaver Orientale Beauty of Livermere seed red poppy flowers red and black poppy flowers

Poppy – Papaver orientale – Beauty of Livermere also known as the Oriental Poppy, is a

highlight in the garden with its large, papery, cup-shaped flowers that are a scarlet red color, that have a dark eye and black splotches at the base. Growing in clumps, the flowers are usually 4 – 6 inches wide and rise atop long stalks that have thistle-like leaves that are silvery-green. It has a blooming season that ranges from late Spring to early Summer, grows best in full sun in well-drained soil but can also be grown in very light shade and will grow between 28 – 36 inches tall. It’s important to note that this plant doesn’t do well in high Summer heat and humidity. These showy flowers will attract pollinators to your garden such as Hummingbirds, Butterflies, and Bees while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. They are great for cut flowers, beds, borders, and can also be used for edging. The seedpods that follow the fading flowers are quite attractive and

can also be used in dried floral arrangements. Another great feature of this plant is that it is easy to grow, which is great for the beginning gardener!
