Liatris spicata-Marsh blazing star. Aka: blazing star. Tall unbranched slender clumping perennial with thin grass-like leaves that reach to the top of the stem to the showy flowers stacked around the long stalkless flowerhead. The plant produces a multitude of densely packed spikes of rose-purple flowers from July to September. Because of the absent stalk the flowers become fluffy-like and flow with the air. They are easy to care for with little to no problems (but don’t like wet cold soil). This plant is native to Eastern U.S. and is an herbaceous perennial flowering plant in the sunflower and daisy family Asteraceae.
