Poppy - Papaver rhoeas - Double Shirley will produce a gorgeous blend of pastel-colored
blooms that come in shades of pink, red, and white and have a yellow center. The flowers are double petaled and have a paper like appearance, and have attractive foliage and thin, furry stems. These plants are grown as an annual flowering plant, and they will grow quickly from freshly harvested seeds. They will bloom profusely for a few short weeks and will then wilt in late Autumn. What’s interesting about this plant is that even though it is considered an annual flowering plant, their seeds will fall to the bare ground and will allow new plants to emerge the following season. A little gardening tip: like most Poppies, these plants are most attractive when sown by the masses. They grow best in full sun, thrive in temperatures around 70F, and will grow between 12 – 30 inches tall. The soil should be well-draining, and can be average to rich, although it prefers sandy soils. These flowers will attract numerous pollinators to your garden such as Hummingbirds, Butterflies, Bees, and Ladybugs all while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. These do great in flower beds, raised beds, and also in borders in the garden.
