Potentilla nepalensis - Shogran. aka : Nepal Cinquefoil, Potentilla Shogran. Named after the mountain in Pakistan where it was discovered by a Swedish expedition, it can be found growing wild in cool and cold places around the world. A clumping dwarf, low growing herbaceous perennial, forming a mound of deep green foliage, with hairy, toothed, strawberry-like leaves on wiry branches. Atop a single branch is a showy bright carmine-rose saucer shaped flower with raspberry centers. Attracts Hummingbirds, Butterflies and Bees. The plant is easy to grow and adapts well to various areas and types of soil, including acidic soil. The plant remains hardy in wind, heat and frost, and is tolerant to heat and drought. The color of the flowers will change with age, which will give a multi-colored show in your garden. Cut back after blooming to encourage further growth. Divide in the spring. Popular uses are ornamental, cottage garden, edging, cut flowers, accent color, borders, containers, rock garden, alpine and rock gardens.
