Amaranthus Caudatus – Love Lies Bleeding is a tall drink of water. Standing between 4 to 8 feet tall with erect stems carrying wine red pinnacles of tiny flowers that cascade down the stem as it bends from the weight and blows gently in the wind. It can be quite striking during blooming season as a backdrop to garden areas. When growing the seed, it is said to maintain moisture until seedlings are small plants, then this plant is a bit drought tolerant. Panicles of blooms can be used in floral arrangements or leave them and let the birds enjoy the seed. In the South U.S. it likes afternoon shade. This plant is native to India, Africa, and Peru. Quite a few parts of this plant are edible, including the leaves and seeds. Used for food commonly in India and S. America. I read during the Victorian Era flowers had meaning and Amaranthus Caudatus stood for : hopelessness or hopeless love. Perhaps why the name “Love lies Bleeding”

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
