Adonis aestivalis - Pheasant's Eye originated in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The name is steeped in Greek Mythology. If you remember your mythology, Adonis was a beautiful man who upset a Greek Goddess and was killed by a boar. His blood is the same color as the flower in this description. It is also a poisonous plant, being lower on the poison list, but it does have poison properties. But in the same breath it is used as a Medicinal plant for some of its properties are known to herbalists as an alternative to digitalis as well as a treatment for kidney problems. It is a member of the Buttercup Family.
