Campanula rigidipila – Bellflower is rare plant from Ethiopia and the Kenyan highlands, and I read is the world's most southerly growing campanula. It has a small bellflower with flared-out flowers ranging incolors from white, purple, and blue, with white hairs. The epithet rigidipila means “stiff-haired”. The flowers appear on erect stems, and a few more flowers will grow every year as the plant matures. The leaves are a deep green and are heart shaped with serrated edges. The genus name comes from the Latin word campana which means bell, that references the bell-shaped flowers. It will grow between 4 – 8 inches tall and has a blooming season ranging from spring to summer. This hardy plant is native to the mountains of Ethiopia and thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil. It will attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to your garden while being resistant to deer and rabbits. These are great for containers, and in beds and borders in your garden.
