Centaurium erythraea - f. album also known as the White Feverwort and White Centaury, is a Biennial with white flowers that bloom from July to October. They grow from a small basal rosette that bolts an erect, leafy stem that may branch. The leaves are triangular and arranged oppositely on the stem, and the flower clusters emerge from the stem and grow parallel to it. Each cluster of flowers contain many white flowers and sometimes may end up tangling with the foliage.  They are part of the Gentianaceae family. They grow best in full sun in average, well-draining soils, and will grow up to 8 inches tall. This plant is thought to have medicinal benefits. The European Centaury is used as a medical herb in many parts of Europe and is mainly prepared as an herbal tea. It is thought to possess medical properties that are beneficial for patients who have liver and gastric diseases. However, please do your own research and/or consult with a physician first before consuming any plant or flower. This is a Honeybee food plant. They do well in beds and borders.
