Solidago Ohioensis - Ohio Goldenrod

Solidago Ohioensis – Ohio Goldenrod is a plant that has dark green foliage with lush, lance-like leaves, and clusters of golden blooms. It is a North American plant species in the Sunflower family. It has a blooming season ranging from late summer to early fall, will grow between 3 – 4 feet tall, and grows best in full sun with well-drained soil. People believe that this plant causes summer hay fever, however that is not the case; it happens to grow at the same time as ragweed. An interesting fact about this plant is that the Native Americans often used this plant for healing purposes. They also used it to create a yellow dye from its blossoms. The genus name “Solidago” comes from the Latin words that mean “to make whole” which refers to the plant’s medicinal properties. This plant also makes a tremendous late season pollen source for honeybees. It will attract pollinators to your garden such as butterflies and bees while being resistant to deer and rabbits. They do well in beds and borders in the garden. One plant can produce as many as 500 small yellow flower heads in a compact branching array at the top of the plant. the plant grows in marshes, on sand dunes, and along the banks of rivers.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
