Aconitum carmichaelii Arendsii group - Chinese Aconite. Aka: Azure monkshood, helmet flower. This herbaceous perennial grows upright and erect with sturdy stems and leather-like leaves. At the top of the stems are a dense array of panicles touting very showy tubular flowers of fabulous rich azure blue that will make your jaw drop. These long tubular flowers bend gently over atop the stems and look very much like a monk wearing his hood. Happy basking in the sun in cool climates, you can actually get a second round of blooms if the stems are cut back after flowering. Where you decide to plant this flower is important because they don’t like to be moved.
