Penstemon palmeri - Palmer's Penstemon. Aka: palmers beardtongue, scented penstemon, scented beardtongue. Upright perennial evergreen herb that stands erect with oblong green leaves in pairs going up the stalk. The stems grow multitudes of showy reddish-pink flowers that stack upward in symmetrical pairs in long clusters. The flowers bloom in the spring in beautiful hues of purple, blue, and pink, and emit a wonderful aroma resembling the scent of honeysuckle. It is easy to grow and maintain and is sometimes grown for erosion control. It is a self sower and a native of Wyoming to northern Mexico, and westward to California, being named after botanist Edward Palmer.
