Poppy - Papaver Paeoniflorum - Purple Peony Poppy. The purple hue of these beauties makes them look royal. The showy double petaled blooms have ruffles of lovely light purple that sparkle in the sunlight. But when the bloom ends and the pretty petals fall, they keep on giving. What's left is an oblong seed pod, that when dried can be cut and used for floral arrangement and bouquets. The seeds can also be stored for the following season. Common uses for the plants include walkways, driveways, fences, gardens, and beds. Some folks grow these beauties en masse in a natural setting. They also thrive well in planters and containers. The flowers attract butterflies, bumble bees, lady bugs and hummingbirds. They grow best in moderate temperatures around 70 degrees and are not keen on summer heat. Soil however, is the key to success. This plant prefers sandy soil that is well drained. They will self-sow if desired. If you don’t want that deadhead before they bud.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
