Poppy – Papaver Somniferum – Rye Beaner is a hardy heirloom with lovely, large pale lilac petals, with a dark center. These poppies will send up thick flower stems growing between 3 – 4 feet and will produce nodding flower heads. Once the petals drop, the big pods will swell as their seeds mature to harvest, then when the seeds dry, you can use them for your culinary needs or can be stored for use for next year. If you are planning on eating the seeds, make sure to cook them otherwise if eaten raw, they can cause a mild upset stomach. Toasted poppy seeds’ nutty flavor will enhance breads that are sweet and savory, are great in cakes and cookies, and are even tasty in salad dressings. The pods can also be used for decorations. The pods are a light-green color and can be used for crafts and dried floral arrangements. If wanting to use the pods for dried arrangements, cut the pods off leaving a long stem, and then hang upside down to dry. These plants love full sun and well-drained soil and will look nice in your garden all throughout spring. The large flowers have a dark center in the middle that will attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to your garden, while being resistant to deer and rabbits. These are great for cut flowers, dried flower arrangements, beds, borders, and containers, while being easy to grow and drought tolerant.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!
ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.
DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.
