Pycnanthemum pilosum - Hairy Mountain Mint. Aka: whorled mountain mint. This is an erect, clump forming herbaceous perennial that branches out and gives the appearance of being bushy. As the plant gets taller, the leaves become smaller and more slender. The blooms grow in clusters of white 2 lipped flowers surrounded by long narrow mid-green leaves that are noted for their aroma when crushed. The plant is fast growing, and low maintenance, strong, and long flowering, from July to September. The plant spreads by forming rhizomes and will quickly invade other spaces. If spreading is unwanted, it is suggested to use a spade and prune at the roots in spring to prevent the clumps from spreading.
