Veronica porphyriana – Speedwell. This is a mat forming, erect perennial with deciduous foliage and dark green toothed leaves. The flowers present on the long stems with tiny striking brilliant blue/violet flowers that are densely packed up in the columns. The flowers will blossom from the bottom to the top giving continuous flowering for several months. Creeping out it creates a burst of blue and is quite fetching in masse. Regular watering will ensure the plant's success, being careful not to waterlog. There are no serious pest or disease problems.
Fun Fact: there is a legend that Saint Veronica wiped Christ’s forehead with her veil while he was carrying the cross to Calvary. The markings left on the veil resemble the Speedwell flowers.
