Achillea filipendulina - Parker's Varietat. Common name, Fern-leaf yarrow. A showy upright clump-forming yarrow with 1-2 10 in leaves that are hairy, divided into up to 15 pairs of linear lanceolate segments , that have a spicy aroma. The flowers are flat disc shaped and bright yellow. Stems are stiff and erect standing tall and showy above the foliage. This plant, blooming from June through August is long lasting and requires medium maintenance. It is very heat tolerant and can withstand dry soil, but must avoid heavy clay, moist, rich soil. It is great when used in dry flower arrangements because the spicy aroma of the leaves does not fade. Other uses include cottage gardens, borders, containers and group or mass planting. *tip... cutting plants back to basal leaves, and cleaning up spent flowers, could possibly promote blooming in the fall. Also, deadhead to lateral buds to lengthen the blooming period.
* Fun fact: I read the plant was named after the Greek Warrior Achilles, he used the plant to stop the bleeding and heal the wounds of his Soldiers during the Trojan War.
