Achillea Millefolium – Rubra seed red achillea flowers

Achillea Millefolium – Rubra Common names: thousand leaf, sanguinary, milfoil, staunch weed, soldier's wort. This red yarrow, blooming in dark pink to deep carmine, flat- topped flower clusters containing a multitude of reddish-pink daisy-like flowers. The Rubra is known anddesired for the mounds of fern-like foliage that produce a pleasant fragrance. They will be aggressive spreading in home gardens or if growing in moist soils. Yarrow tends to flop over in fertile soil or shade. Staking may be necessary to protect its fragile stems. It is recommended to cut down to its lower leaves after blooming is finished to insure healthy growth for the following season. This plant is tolerant to heat, cold, drought, and low fertile soil. Rubra also has herbal uses. Some Native American tribes used yarrow to induce sleep, reduce fever, headaches and pain relief. It is used cosmetically for a cleansing and refreshing effect. Tea made from this plant has anti-inflammatory properties, and also purifies body systems. Please do your own research and/or consult with a physician first before consuming any plant or flower. Growing with companion herbs induces better fragrance, flavor and essential oils. When harvesting, cut as soon as blooming begins. Gather them together and hang upside down away from direct sunlight. If the flower is open longer than one day they will go to seed while drying. Common uses include cut flowers, dried flowers, ground cover, borders, containers and large pots.

Medicinal: because of its astringent effects. It has been used to treat inflammations, such as hemorrhoids, and headaches. I also read it has been said to both stop bleeding and promote it. Infusions of yarrow, taken either internally or externally, are said to speed recovery from severe bruising. The most medicinally active part of the plant is the flowering tops. They also have a mild stimulant effect and have been used as a snuff. Yarrow is still used today and  is valued mainly for its help in colds and influenza, and also for its effect on the circulatory, digestive, excretory, and urinary systems. In the nineteenth century, yarrow was said to have a greater number of indications than any other herb. Pretty Cool flower!

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!

SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!

ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.

DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.
