Achillea Tomentosa - Aurea. Aka wooly yarrow is a showy, mat forming, herbaceous plant that produces deep yellow, 3” wide clusters that grow atop tall stems, Each cluster produces a multitude of daisy-like flowers and wooly grey-green leaves. They bloom from summer to fall and require perfectly drained soil. They don’t tolerate heat and humidity. They are low maintenance with spicy fragrant leaves. Plants do best in a protected area against strong winds. The genus name Achillea is a reference to Achillies, the mythological Greek hero of the Trojans. It is said that he used the plant as a herbal treatment to stop bleeding and heal the wounds of his soldiers. Plants of choice for companions include daylily, cornflower or ornamental grass. Common uses are rock gardens, ground cover, beds, borders, edging, pockets in stone walls, ground between walking stones, and containers. They are tolerant to drought, dry soil, and shallow rocky soil.

Medicinal: because of its astringent effects. It has been used to treat inflammations, such as hemorrhoids, and headaches. I also read it has been said to both stop bleeding and promote it. Infusions of yarrow, taken either internally or externally, are said to speed recovery from severe bruising. The most medicinally active part of the plant is the flowering tops. They also have a mild stimulant effect and have been used as a snuff. Yarrow is still used today and is valued mainly for its help in colds and influenza, and also for its effect on the circulatory, digestive, excretory, and urinary systems. In the nineteenth century, yarrow was said to have a greater number of indications than any other herb. Pretty Cool flower!
