Nemophila Discoidalis - Pennie Black –also known as Baby Black Eyes, are low growing annuals that bloom in the spring. They are black and a deep violet color with a white center and white tips, so they are very attractive. They are fast growing, can be grown in either full sun or partial shade in well drained soils, and will grow between 4 – 6 inches tall. The showy appearance of the flower attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to the garden while being resistant to deer and rabbits. They are also drought tolerant as well as deer and rabbit resistant. They are good for containers, baskets, window boxes, beds, borders, and for groundcovers. Some nice features of these flowers is that they are low maintenance and easy to grow and maintain, making them perfect for the beginning, busy gardener! To germinate light is required and the seed needs to be thinly covered with moist soil. I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
