Nepeta cataria – ssp. Citriodora also known as White Catnip, is a perennial shrub that grows in clusters, and occurs very rarely in gardens. It is not complicated to cultivate, and its flavor exceeds the one of other balms and will keep its taste even when dried. The weed of this plan is often drunk as an herbal tea infusion, and it is also a good spice to use with other herbs in salads. It has downy leaves, and white blossoms that are purple mottled, and has a very specific mint flavor. An interesting fact about this plant is that it is a close relative to Catmint and also often crossbreeds with it when grown in close proximity, but cats however do not seem to be very interested in it. It has a blooming season that ranges from July to September, grows best in full sun with well-draining soil, and will grow between 20 – 24 inches tall. It will attract pollinators to your garden such as Butterflies and Bees while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. They are native to Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe, and can be used for cut flowers, and do well in beds and borders in the garden.
