Scabiosa Japonica - Alpina Ritz Blue

Scabiosa Japonica - Alpina Ritz Blue is native to central and southern Japan and has also been introduced to the Dominican Republic.  The Royal Horticultural Society considers it a good plant to attract pollinators. This variety is a deep blue scabiosa, the flowers bloom in masses above compact green leaves. This flower will grow under a foot in height and can be grown in either full sun or partial shade in well-draining soils. These can also be grown in containers easily and do not require much care. Butterflies and Bees are drawn to the paper-textured flowers and the pollinators will visit often. I also carry the same plant but in a rose color. The common name 'scabious' comes from the Latin word scabiosus meaning 'mangy, rough or itchy' which refers to the herb's traditional usage as a folk medicine to treat scabies, an illness that causes a severe itching sensation. The flowers are borne on inflorescences in the form of heads; each head contains many small florets, each floret cupped in a membranous, saucer-shaped bract. These flowers will bloom from June through September, and are also easy to grow and care for, making this the perfect plant for the beginning gardener! You don’t want to miss out on this plant find, it will surely add a nice touch to any garden!

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!

SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!

ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.

DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.

Good Luck and Happy Planting!!!!
