Verbascum chaixii yellow. (Nettle-leaved mullein) This flower is one of the “true” perennial
species of the Mullein family. The long stalks produce pale yellow blossoms with purple and red filaments. The individual flowers are short lived, but the multitude of buds keeps it in bloom from mid to late summer and is low maintenance. It is a wonderful plant for your bees, and they will visit it daily in bloom, bees are something we should all try to help in their survival since they give more than they get! The plant is native to Europe and has adapted to the United States where it can be found on stony hillsides and open woodlands. The flowers could possibly vary slightly because of the parent cultivar. This plant adapts very well to rock gardens, gravel, and cottage gardens. These flowers are just so unique and so beautiful it’s a must have. It is nearly carefree and self-sows and a smooth pace so as not to overdo.
