Dianthus Heddewigii black and white Japanese pinks, the nickname is not because of the color pink, but because the edges look like they were cut with pinking shears. These plants are a knockout and over the edge unique with the unusual blackish maroon and white fluffy flowers blooming over a grass type foliage. They bloom uniformly with double fringed flowers that have a light clove scent. A good plant to deadhead to prolong the blooming period. Also these are attractive to the butterflies and bees that will be attracted to them. They are widely used as cut ornamentals. These were introduced in France in the 1400's. I read in the 1500's it was the most prized plant in France. It stated that rent was paid with them and also it was a big deal for Royalty to have them included in portraits. My personal favorite of all my Dianthus.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!
ONLY GERMINATE A SMALL PORTION AT A TIME.
DON'T PUT ALL YOUR MONKEYS IN A BARREL.
Good Luck and Happy Planting!!!!
