Dierama pulcherrimum - Blackbird. Also known as dierama blackbird, angels fishing rod and fairy fishing rod.  This variety of Dierama is my most popular of all listed. This plant produces deep burgundy wine-purplish red flowers that are unique to put it mildly. It is a clumping evergreen perennial that produces dainty dark wine purple bells on a thin wiry arching stem. Be patient, it takes a little time for the plant to get established after transplanting. Other than that they are tough and beautiful and virtually carefree. They do best outdoors in hummus rich well drained soil in a sheltered area. Dieramas are long term plants that get better every year and when mature are great focal points in bloom.
