Euphorbia mellifera – Honey Spurge is a hardy plant with honey scented yellow summer flowers and attractive apple green leaves, that are held in whorls and highlighted by a cream mid-rib. It can be grown in either full sun or part shade, however if grown in full sun, the plant will be more compact. Now if it is grown in a shady area, you will then have an elegant open centered plant. If it ends up getting too leggy, you can cut it back for a denser growth, however this may reduce flowering the following year. The flower buds can be removed to result in larger leaves and more growth. It has a blooming season ranging from late spring to early summer, can grow between 3 – 7 feet tall, does best in well-drained soil, and is also drought tolerant. It will attract pollinators to your garden such as butterflies and bees, while being resistant to deer and rabbits. It is native to Europe and would do best in borders in your garden. Euphorbias are a very unusual flowering plant and are quite strikingly attractive.
