Alyssum Lobularia maritima - Royal Carpet is named for the majestic purple flowers that also have white flowers randomly bloom against the purple, making it quite attractive and one of the lowest growers at 2 – 4 inches tall.  Loving full Sun and poor soil, this is a great plant for a lazy gardener. Easy to grow and no maintenance with a ton of flowers covering bald spots or cascading over a window box or container. This 2-tone flower is fragrant as well as attractive. It attracts Hummingbirds, Butterflies and Bees and some beneficial insects such as ladybugs, which eat aphids. Crazy but it is a member of the Mustard family. The name Alyssum comes from a Greek word that means ~ rabies,~ the ancient Greeks believed that this plant had the ability to treat this disease.
