Malva sylvestris also commonly known as the Common Mallow, is a bushy, erect, biennial, or perennial that boasts attractive flower spikes that are adorned with 5-petaled flowers that are a bright rose-purple color that are 2 inches across and have darker stripes. The flowers are arranged singly or in clusters that have 3-5 blossoms in the leaf axils. The leaves are divided into 5-9 shallow lobes, and stand on long, hairy footstalks. It has a blooming season that ranges from Summer to Fall, will grow between 2 – 4 feet tall, and can be grown in either full sun or partial shade in chalk, clay, loam, or sandy well-draining soils,  however, the best flower color is obtained in full sun. They will self-seed in the garden if happy. These showy flowers will attract pollinators to your garden such as Bees while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. They are generally pest and disease free and do well in beds and borders in the garden. Some great characteristics of this plant is that it is easy to grow and low maintenance, making this  the perfect plant for the beginning, busy gardener!
