Verbascum bombyciferum Giant Silver Mullein. This flower is a short-lived evergreen perennial producing a silvery flower-spike that bears a succession of sulphur-yellow, saucer shaped flowers that appear during the second year. The leaves are large and felted with a silver-green color. It blooms from early to late summer and heavily self-seeds which will be a great addition to the back border of the garden you choose. Deadhead to prolong the blooming period. It is known to be fairly pest and disease free. Does well in beds and borders, gravel and rock gardens, cottage gardens, and wildlife gardens. Native to Turkey, and introduced to California, Great Britain, and Germany. It is considered a good plant to attract pollinators.
