Verbascum Epixanthinum

Verbascum epixanthinum is a showy plant that has ground-hugging rosettes of golden haired, grey furry leaves, that grow thick stumpy spires, that are covered in large 5-petalled saucer-shaped, bright yellow flowers with orange anthers. These grow best in full sun with well-drained soil and are also drought tolerant. They are native to Greece and will grow between 18 – 24 inches tall in the fall. It tolerates nutrient poor soil but grows to its potential in fertile well drained soil. It is a wonderful plant for your bees, and they will visit it daily in bloom, bees are something we should all try to help in their survival since they give more than they get!  This hardy plant has a blooming season starting in the spring and continuing throughout the summer. These short-lived plants will die back once flowering is completed; however, they do return in the spring. It will attract butterflies and bees to your garden while being resistant to deer and rabbits. These showy flowers are great for cut flowers and do well in beds and borders.
